Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how TrueNorth ("we," "our," or "the app") collects, uses, and protects your information. TrueNorth is an iOS compass application that helps you keep a personal compass pointed toward a saved destination.

1. Information We Collect

Location Data

TrueNorth requests access to your device's location through iOS location services. Your location is used solely to calculate the direction and distance between your current position and your selected saved destination. Location data is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to external servers.

Heading & Compass Data

The app reads your device's compass heading to orient the on-screen compass. This data is used locally and is not stored or transmitted.

Saved Places

You can save meaningful destinations (such as a home, hometown, or family location) in the app. Saved place names, coordinates, and personalization (emoji, color) are stored locally on your device. An app group shared storage is used so that the TrueNorth home screen widget can access your selected destination data.

Purchase Information

TrueNorth offers optional Premium subscriptions. Subscription management, entitlement status, purchase processing, and purchase restoration are handled by RevenueCat and Apple. We do not directly collect or store your payment information. Apple processes all App Store payments according to their terms.

Advertising

TrueNorth uses Google AdMob to display ads in the free tier of the app. Google may collect certain data needed for ad serving, ad measurement, fraud prevention, and regulatory compliance. The Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) may be used to present consent messaging where required by law.

Premium Users

Users with an active TrueNorth Premium subscription are not shown advertisements. AdMob is not loaded for Premium users.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Location & heading data — to calculate and display the direction and distance to your selected destination.
  • Saved places — to store and recall your meaningful destinations on your device.
  • Purchase data — to determine your subscription status and unlock Premium features.
  • Advertising data — to serve relevant ads in the free tier (handled by Google AdMob).

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Information may be shared with the following third-party services only as described:

  • Google AdMob — for ad serving in the free tier.
  • RevenueCat — for subscription and purchase management.
  • Apple — for App Store payment processing and subscription billing.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your saved places and app preferences are stored locally on your device using iOS standard storage (UserDefaults and app group containers). We do not operate external servers that store your personal data.

5. Data Deletion

You can delete any saved destination at any time from within the app. To fully remove all app data, you can delete the TrueNorth app from your device, which removes all locally stored data including saved places and preferences.

6. Children's Privacy

TrueNorth is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
